ZeddZedd continues to fly high with the release of his Hayley Williams collaboration having garnered much press attention. In an interview with St Louis Today, the German producer opens up even more about his “Clarity” album, as well as what it’s like to work with various people in the music industry.

With his radio success and various TV show appearances, he’s been able to find a way out of the category of disposable EDM producers:

People say it’s very generic, heartless and soulless, and a lot of the time it is — but not always. A lot of these songs were written on piano and transferred to electronic sounds, and you can hear that.

Whilst album’s with EDM are starting to pop up more and more, it’s still a single-driven market, which Zedd wisely chose to deviate from with his debut album:

It was harder and harder to express what I wanted to express in a song that’s a matter of minutes. If you put out singles, the perception is that’s what the artist is about. But I don’t want to be categorized by one song. So the only solution was to make a full-length album to show everything I can be.

He also sheds some light on what led to the creation of “Stay The Night“:

I’ve always been a huge fan of Paramore. I’d been in a rock band for a long time. That kind of music is my background. It was a personal dream come true to work with her. And she’s never done an electronic song. I’m superproud of that song.

Though he’s now part of the Interscope team, Zedd makes sure to shout out a number of people who have helped him in his career, not the least of which is Skrillex:

We got in touch, and he connected me with everyone. He’s the one person who opened all the doors. We’ve been in touch ever since. And we’ve got the same management, lawyer and publicist. We’re one big family.
